| The Anasazi was a Native American culture that existed prior to the Native Americans that most of us commonly think of. They lived in the Colorado Plateau area which today encompasses Northern Arizona, Southern Utah and Parts of Colorado and New Mexico from about 500 A.D. till roughly the fifteenth century when their entire culture simply disappeared. We know more about ancient Babylon in Mesopotamia, and then we know about the Anasazi. Today their remains can be seen in at Chaco Canyon, and Canyon de Chelly in Arizona and the city built in the walls of stone, Mesa Verde in southwestern Colorado. In Utah is Newspaper Rock, a rock with perhaps over a thousand years Native Americans would make images, for what reason we do not know, but it is unique. Also throughout the canyon lands area, are hundreds of individual images called petroglyphs of pictographs and one can, if lucky, come across ancient greeneries where they kept their food. |
