| The Black Forest is the southwestern area of Germany. This region is forested with many beautiful, little towns and villages. This area is just above Basel, Switzerland and includes the college town of Freiburg and Baden Baden in the north. This is a land of myth and legend. There is an open-air museum at Gutash, which has Germany’s oldest house. Just outside of Offenberg is the town of Gengebach, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is one of the nicest little towns I was in. The Rhine River flows from the Swiss Alps into the Black Forest. Not currently in Germany, is Strasbourg, which is currently in France. This city has shifted from French to German control many times over the last five hundred years. Strasbourg is wonderful city with a famous Gothic Church and a very picturesque area called Petite Paris. |
