| The far northeastern part of Italy is the mountainous Italian Alps, the Dolomites. They are fantastic shaped peaks jutting out from the earth. Many times there are individual mountains standing by themselves. The city of Cortina D’ Ampezzo is the heart this alpine resort region and has hosted the Winter Olympics. From here is a 68 mile road called the Great Dolomite Road that some people say is the best alpine drive in the world. It goes over two mountain passes, the Falzarego and the Pordori. At the passes in the summer you will find people on lounge chairs getting a suntan in the foothills of these jagged peaks. When I drove on this road there were hundreds of people on motorcycles that kept passing me. If you ride a motorcycle, you will think you died and went to heaven. At the end of this road is the city of Bolzano, the largest city in Northern Italy |

This is one of the most spectacular group of mountains I have ever seen. Does anyone know it's name? I think they are rather famous. |
